I am so tired of seeing all these ads :(
I have been on here for years but now it is just covered up! I hate to leave but when I use the database to research plants I want to purchase I have to scroll down everytime.

I see you've uploaded 58 images to the database. Upload another 42 images, or make that number of contributions in a few other ways, and you will gain the option to turn ads off.

Does it matter if the plant already has pictures?

The database has few or no comments for many entries. I think those count as well? Would be nice to have multiple zone comments on many plants.I added entries and pics and got out of ads, it is nice.
Plant it and they will come.

I have long accepted that I need to reach the magic 100 mark to go ad-free (working on it), but as a couple of people have mentioned recently, I've noticed that the ad content has increased considerably of late and has reached the point of being intrusive. Have the ad frequency metrics changed?

Only @dave can answer that, I personally don't see ads so can't comment on the amount.
Lots of entries can use extra details filled in so it doesn't need to be photos.

It looks like you've made more than 100 contributions to the database so you should be able to set your preferences to turn off the ads.

Go to your profile page
Select: Change your site preferences
Scroll down to Disable ads on site
Select Yes, remove the ads
Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and select Save your changes

I did make a change to our ad network a few days ago and as part of that change I emphasized to the new network that one of my goals is to improve the experience for our visitors and members. Previously, we had what I considered to be too many units, and often they would be doubled up, with one appearing right on top of the other. That has been unacceptable to me for a long time.

So the new network is supposed to be friendlier and better.

I took a look in the plants database and I see a big ad at the top of the plant view page, that is a bit too big. I have disabled that ad unit for all logged in members. I believe this should really help your experience in the database. I'm interested in hearing your feedback. Also, yes, everyone who posts 100+ photos to the database gets a preference option to completely turn them off.

I turned ads off a long time ago. I just set it back to see ads, big change Dave. Not so intrusive. I no longer see adds that look like they are part of some ones post. Thumbs up

Sue, thanks so much for pointing that out! I've been looking at only the images figure D'Oh!
On my phone I don't have a Disable Ads option under Site Preferences. Will revisit it later on my laptop, but I've looked for it before and not found it. Where am I missing it?

Hmm. These are my 10th, 11th & 12th options. No option relating to ads in the entire list.

The preference option does not appear until a day after you exceed 100 photos posted to the database.

Your profile page shows your current database contributions as:

90 images
1 Plant Combination
7 comments
4 plants

*Blush* I included the 4 plants but I guess adding plants to the database doesn't count towards the 100 items needed to disable ads, so you will need to add 2 more comments or 2 more photos.

Lin, that was you who lead me astray! (Sorry Sue D'Oh! ) Last time I looked into this, I figured I didn't have the option because I didn't have enough entries. I've gone full circle.
Thanks @dave & @zuzu, sorry for the kerfuffle.
