I've been eyeing this cute little gasteria at a plant store for over 6 months and I finally decided to take him home today. I have many gasterias at home that are very happy and healthy. That being said I am not sure how to deal with the damage he has on the one leaf there. It's a pretty big damage spot and I don't know if it's OK to take the leaf off or just leave him be. Feel bad for the little fella! Thought I would get advice before I pot him. Thank you!

Nice plant!

I'd leave the leaf on. Breaking the leaf off could be a pretty traumatic event for the plant given the limited number of leaves it currently has and it does not look like it is a spot with active issues going on.
It is what it is!

agreed just give it the best possible conditions you can, this is the best approach. I am always taking on projects like this. Most times i turn them around but it takes patience and some luck. Keep us updated on how you go on with it Thumbs up
Here is an aloe i am trying to turn around now. You can see the centre slowly coming good. There is also a new small pup forming
