So far, it's been a beautiful, if slightly puzzling garden year. The SDBs are about a week behind this year although our winter was mild for the most part. The iris reticulatas bloomed in February.

Great start to the season.

So today, three new SDBs popped up: one is 'Love Bites,' one is 'Color' (according to my Masterlist, but I am not sure), and one is a mystery. I would appreciate any guesses. It looks a bit like 'Hocus Pocus' to me, but I do not have 'Hocus Pocus' on my masterlist.

Voldy's Mink is spectacular as well as your pic of Gingerbread man. I am going off to see if Voldy's Mink can be found. It looks like one of those Irises I would dig something up just to plant.

Color has a bright orange beard, and doesn't have blue on the end. Maybe Irish Halo?

Two new irises in the garden today: SDB 'Crystal Ship' and Iris x germanica. The germanica has been on the verge of opening for a week. It would choose a rainy day to open. It is a floppy little iris to begin with and the rain makes it look positively limp.

I think the last one is what my Mom had so many of. Yes she is most to blame for my obsession. As a little girl I would just stop and stare for long periods of time at their beauty.
