It is SO NICE to be able to jump into some jeans, a shirt and shoes... and step into the garden a few minutes before the sun rises above the horizon. Between the winter and the pandemic it had been quite a while since I had worked in the garden. This area is just off the porch and small brick patio I built. It faces due north and, even on a summer day, does not receive any direct sun. It does, however, get enough light to very successfully grow Hostas.
Of the plants in the photo........................
Hosta 'Blue Angel' grows quite large... my mound reaches 2 feet high and almost 4 feet across... and it is only 3 years old. The color is a very good blue-green and the leaves get pretty sizeable.
Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' is perhaps the best small hosta I've ever grown. The blue cupped leaves and the intricately detailed blooms are well worth getting down on your hands and knees to examine.
Hosta 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd is a good looking medium large hosta. It's gray-green leaves are a great foil for anything you plant around them.
The combination of 'Purple Sensation' Allium and 'Eye of the Tiger' Dutch Iris worked far better than I imagined they would... and they looked particularly good with the blue Hostas as a backdrop.
There is an old lawn chair on the small porch that overlooks this grouping of hostas. It's a comfortable, calm place to sit and watch the sun set. "...And in green underwood and cover,
Blossom by blossom the spring begins."

A very nice write-up on your photo and sentimental thoughts of what a garden offers. Hope to see more in the future. Thank you.
