Had some serious issues with gophers that tunneled around the roots causing some growth issues. Now it's doing much better.
The next group of trees and shrubs are many pics of several trees and shrubs of interest. Many are singled out and others are grouped together as shown and displayed in my garden. All trees and shrubs were planted by yours truly.I lost count of how many holes I have dug over the years.
The next pic is a small tree with blue flowers is a California Lilac . Ceanothus is a genus of about 50–60 species so not sure what species it is . It's a nitrogen-fixing shrub in the buckthorn family. Common names for members of this genus are buckbrush, California lilac, soap bush, or just ceanothus.
It has vibrant blue flowers that attract tons of bees.

This next pic of a variegated leaf maple. It's being attacked by beetles as have a number of my pines and white paper birch trees. Seems it's the only maple thank goodness. It's a understory tree needs shade from hot summer sun. Small tree with long seed racemen's or helicopter seeds.
Carnival Maple-A-ser kam-PES-tree . Family: Sapindaceae, Aceraceae leaves are white green and pink in early spring. Some leaves can revert to green and removal of the solid green leaves can keep the leafs variegation on the entire tree.
Male Ginkgo.very slow growing. Conifer cousin/Ginkgo boloba. Turns bright yellow in fall.

Arbutus unedo, the strawberry tree, is an evergreen shrub or small tree in the flowering plant family with fruit that ripen from green to a bright red fruit hanging from branches that resemble strawberries. Birds adore them and jelly's are made from the fruit.
