Thread OP

Hello folks!
I was gifted a few epi cuttings in Nov 2020. The plant had thrived and new shoots developed. I have it outside on my east-facing balcony. It gets about 2 hours of morning sun. It is potted in a plastic pot and the soil medium is orchid bark, pumice, and charcoal. I water when the medium is completely dry. I've had to adopt this approach since I'm a notorious overwaterer.

Recently, the plant has developed "scabs". I checked online and I'm unsure if it's scale. I was able to scrub off a little and did not see any bugs. I came back with a vengeance. It seems to only affect one particular stem and I'm wondering if I should separate and isolate it. There is a scab on the leaf too.

I live in Miami, FL Zone 10b

Help and guidance much appreciated.

Hi Verukajone,
Your 2nd pic seems to show some scale but the scabby bits are a bit odd.
On the last pic the dry patch doesn't look sinister to me.
I would give all a good spray of white oil which will suffocate any scale.
Orchid potting bark is not something usually used in Epi planting mixtures.
Charcoal is highly beneficial but you may need something more granular like river sand or a bit of good quality standard potting mix in your medium as long as it drains freely.
Good luck with them!
