Someone gave this to my wife and we have not clue on id, I thought maybe a bromeliad but I would like a definite id. thanks to all!

Yes, that's a Bromeliad. Do the leaves have tiny teeth along the edges or are they smooth? I'm thinking it's possibly a variety of Tufted Airplant (Guzmania) which I think has smooth leaf margins, or maybe a type of Bromeliad (Neoregelia) which have tiny teeth along the edges of the leaves.

Lin, thanks for the quick response, below is a close up of the leaf, the leaves are smooth with a tiny point at the very end. I will post in the bromeliad section.
