I have planted tomatoes last year.
But I only got 1 to 8 fruits per plant.
And the fruits were so small.
Sometimes I got no fruit at all.
Do you think there is any nutrient deficiency here?

I am not sure where you live, but the very hot summer here seemed to keep the fruit from setting, and when it cooled down some, it did set fruit, but many of them didn't have enought time to grow to maturity. Sometimes if you feed too much nitrogen you get all foliage , and not much fruit.

Lily lists zone 11 so that would indeed be warm for tomatoes in the summer. They would be best in fall, winter and spring there. Other than that, more information on the growing conditions would be helpful, Lily.

My tomatoes had good leaves.
I fertilized them a lot.

Several months later, those tomatoes had many flowers.
And I just flicked the flowers.

But many of them (the flowers) seemed to be sterile.
I could not see any pollen.
I think the pollen is visible, right?

But, I just flicked the flowers everyday.
The tomatoes did not drop those flowers.
The flowers were there for several weeks without pollination.

Several weeks later, I gave up and did not flick them anymore.
At the end of the season, I got 10 little tomatoes on 3 different plants.
And the other plants were finally withered without giving me tomatoes.

What kind of fertilizer did you use?

What time of year did you plant the tomatoes? Too much heat and humidity (or too much cool weather) can cause that type of situation.

Can I say the name of product here?
It is a liquid fertilizer.
I use it as foliar spray.

I used high nitrogen for those tomatoes.
After I saw some flowers, I changed it to a high P and K fertilizer.
And those tomatoes got many more flowers.

I think it was a hot summer.
I remember I fought with many spidermites and aphids at that time.

Should I give them a shade?

Yes, you can say the name. I don't intend to bash them.

Too much nitrogen can cause problems with tomatoes. They need more phosphorous and potassium. Something like a ratio of 5-10-10 or 5-20-20, etc. Too much nitrogen can equal very little fruiting.

High heat can stop production as well. You can give tomatoes some shade in the heat of the day as long as they get at least 6 hours of full, direct sunlight.
