Thread OP

I received my very first Monstera Thai constellation from my very sweet friends about 3 weeks ago and when I tried to repot it I found severe root rot and a fat centipede in the soil. I then chopped off the dead and mushy roots and sprayed hydrogen peroxide on it, let it dry overnight and left it in leca + water for a week. When I changed out the water more roots rotted so I did the same thing but this time I left it in perlite.

After 1st chop.

Today (a week later) when I checked it more roots rotted and I'm left with about an inch of the aerial root.

Today.

I'm pretty new to monsteras and I have no idea what to do next. Or if I can even save this plant. I'd really appreciate some advice as it's be a shame if I killed the gift my friends got me.

Spent nodes?? Can roots still grow from here?

New bump that I found, is it rooting or growing another leaf?

Thank you in advance!

I think your misstep may have been spraying it with Hydrogen peroxide and leaving it to dry overnight. Peroxide is NOT good for the roots of plants, no matter what internet influencers might say. It damaged the fine hair roots and can cause root loss. Also, letting the rots air dry overnight is also not good. When a cutting is trying to root it needs moisture. I would place it in a clear plastic cup with moist sphagnum, and then you will have to sit and wait. And wait. And wait. And keep the moss da,p and not wet. Clear cup so you can watch the progress. When roots grow out of slits you will cut in the bottom of the cup, it will be time to pot in a substrate.

Gina! Thank you so much! I followed your advice, waited for almost 2 months, lost a leaf and today the plant surprised me with this new leaf grew from nothing to this stage in 3 days! She's going strong! Thank you again 😊😊
