Hi,

This isn't Papaver orientale. Most noticeably, the leaves are not right.
It appears to be a strain of Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum)

I do really love the salmon coloration of your strain of poppies. Big Grin

@zuzu
There are 3 other misplaced images, too.

Thank you, Danita. I agree that this looks like P. somniferum, but we'll wait for @jathton to take note of this thread.

Thanks, John and Zuzu! Thumbs up

@Zuzu , the comment that is still listed under Oriental Poppy (Papaver orientale 'Helen Elizabeth') should be moved to Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum) as well. Thanks!

You're right, Danita. I should have moved the comment as well, although I do think it's a relevant comment for any plant. Smiling

Thanks to both of you for your help with this. My friend grew these and she was very surprised to learn that at the age of 86 she is apparently growing opium poppies.
They really are beautiful, aren't they?

When I moved into my present home, there were hundreds of P. somniferum blooming in the garden. My friends and I, who had been part of the drug culture of the 1960s and 1970s, had no idea what they were. My seemingly straitlaced mother, however, identified them as opium poppies right away.

True! The only thing that seemed off was that Oriental Poppies usually take longer to bloom from seed. Of course, I claim no authority on Papaver orientale. They do not like the heat and humidity of my climate and croak. So when it comes to Oriental Poppies, I'm not inclined to say, "Look what I have wrought!!!!" but more likely to say, "Look what I have ROT!!!!" Hilarious!

Yes, John, they are very beautiful! The salmon flower color really pops against the glaucous foliage. I'm particularly fond of salmon colored flowers. Lovey dubby
