KIds took me to Vince's last night and we had pizza. Yum. Grands were there too. There was enough pizza leftover for each of us to have enough for lunch today.

Spent 2 hours in the dentist chair yesteday too...........what a FUN birthday diversion. NOT! I broke a tooth off on Sat. I went in on Tues. and they were able to glue it back it for "looks", and yesterday he took it off and put a post in the root, built up what was left of the tooth (not much, since it pretty much broke off at the gumline), made me a plastic one till the crown comes in a couple weeks. I bit down on more gloppy goop for impressions than I care to count. *but I think it was 4 times.............LOL*

I don't like it either, but I have a WONDERFUL dentist. And I do NOT want dentures, so I am doing what I can to keep what I've got, even if it takes posts, etc.

Your lucky to have a good dentist, we have had several different ones the past few years, they don't want to stay in our small town. I agree, I sure as heck don't want dentures either, acckkkk!! Thumbs down

Oh, yeah, it was. And today for lunch we took out the SU's cousin and her SU for their anniversary. We took them to Buffalo Wild Wings. We'd go there again, it was really good.

Yeah, and it worked really good. I have kind of a sore mouth today; all that digging around that he did. Not bad enough that I had to take Advil, but just some "discomfort" at times.

Guess the SU and I have a milking job.........well, it's mostly me, as there is the guy's daughter that milks. They always have 2 people milking. the dad is having knee surgery today. He has milking help, but only till the 20th. I told him we can only help out till March 6th, and I might also have a conflict on March 1st, as I have to do feeder cattle sale at Equity that day. If it runs late, the SU can go help Carissa milk. All I/we have to do is milking; he has other help for feeding, bedding and cleaning barn. I think I have the easy job. LOL We have to go on Sunday, the 17th just for the morning as the other help cannot milk and the daughter will be gone too, but I kinda think we can handle it. Green Grin! Sooooo.............2 weeks.............but it will "only" be 4-5 hrs. a day.

Well, here it is the 18th already and I just found the thread again, don't know what happened to it.

We have had a mild winter. Hubby only used the snow blower a couple of times, and the last time wasn't really necessary. We only have little snowbanks left in shady places. The pastures and fields are looking green. We have had some kind of unseasonable days into the mid 50's, but nights are still in the lower 20's, so nothing is growing much. I do see some red tips of tulip leaves in my south facing flower bed next to the house.

Lambing season has started and I am doing the 1am checks again. No activity for the past 2 nights on my watch. So far the only excitement (aggrivation really) was that one side of the barn door which is one of those track things, has become so hard to close that I only got it 3/4 of the way closed last night. I'm glad the wind wasn't blasting through. I closed the corral gate to keep the sheep from coming in to help themselves to hay. I hope it gets fixed soon as I need to be able to close the doors if I have to bring the whole flock into the barn. Calving season will start any time. The ranch owner decided to have everything happening at once while he has a bit more time, before he gets busy with irrigation and haying. He's adjusted the calving season over several years to go from fall calving to spring.

Glad you found us, Mary. Would it help if I put the present month up as a sticky - I can do that.
No school to day, a snow day after a teacher's only inservice day after Presidents' Day. Melissa has a bad cold, so she and the kids are hunkering down at home today. I will probably go buy groceries when Stan goes in to Jamestown for his cardio rehab. Or maybe we'll stay home and hunker down. It is very white out there.

We didn't have to milk on Sunday, the other person was able to do it. So, the first time was this morning. I'm figuring max 3 hr./day since I was there 1 1/2 hr. this morning. And the SU won't have to come along, nothing for him to do but pet the cats. But, in all honesty, he IS a very good cat-petter. LOL The first time is always getting to know the beasts and how they act when you handle them (I'm talking about the cows here, not the cats..............) so this morning was the learning experience. Nobody kicked me or even lifted a foot with the inclination, but there were a couple of "stompers" but that is to be expected. All in all, it was a good first time.

2 weeks from tomorrow...........we are leaving. I can hardly wait! They told us yesterday at the meeting that we will be stopping one day where the equator is marked so we can see the whole water swirling thing and there are shops, etc. where we can buy stuff. I plan on buying alot of stuff. LOL I had to laugh, DS#2 said "mom, you can bring me back on of those big-ass elephant tusks". And I said "do you ever want to SEE your mother again, or will you visit me in the Kenyan prison????" The guy yesterday said you can even buy tanzanite...........hmmmmm..............might have to look into THAT! I LOVE tanzanite and it is so expensive here, plus getting very hard to find as the mines are getting "mined out".

Barn door problem is solved. Who would have guessed that the bottom of the door needs to be about 8 inches outward for the wheels on the top to move. No doubt it is the result of the barn settling, or could have been caused by something going out of the barn in a hurry when the door was partly open. Whatever. I can close it now.

Yesterday I did an extra lamb check to cover for someone who needed to be gone, and brought in a nice set of twins. The ewe was cooperative and followed the lambmobile with her babies to the barn. Then on my regular 1am check, I brought in another set of twins. Finally there is something to do.

Well, Mary's checking ewes and Anna is probably busy packing, less than a week, right?

I fell last Saturday. We had freezing rain and I put one foot on the back porch and slid all the way to the next to the last step. In the process, I grabbed the handrail, which was also icy, swung myself sideways and got one foot caught between the step and the underside of the plant room. Fortunately, Stan was right there and helped me out of my predicament. I have been achy and bruised, but nothing broke, so it is all good. We were in the process of trying to get Mitzi to come out from under the house so Stan could take her for her rabies shot. She did eventually come out (how do dogs know?) after I put some steak scraps out and he got her in the truck. He had a couple of stops before the vet's and at our daughter's, she managed to get herself over the side of the truck box and was hanging. He saw it happening and got there before she did any damage. Dumb dog. He tied her differently and got errands done and back home with no more excitement.

One of these days, I'll figure out that I'm not 30 anymore...

Wow, Kathleen, it could have been bad! I'm glad it didn't result in anything broken or seriously torn like a rotator cuff. Things happen so fast!

Here is a link to the lambing stories for this year. http://cubits.org/bluegardens/... And at the bottom of any of my posts on Cubits, there is another link that will take you to more lamb stories and other adventures and misadventures I have written about for about the past 10 years. I didn't think about linking it before now, and the lambing season is about half over. This year has not been as exciting as some in the past. I think the ranch owner might have adjusted his feeding time. It does make a difference. I'm not sure what it is, but late afternoon feedings (hay once a day) results in fewer middle of the night births.

Yes, Anna should be packing, but I think she is still fighting her way through snowdrifts to do a milking job.

Yes, Anna is still at the milking job, but only 1 1/2 hr. in the morning at 2 hr. at night. Extra time at night is feeding hay after milking. So, total about 3 1/2 hr. a day.

Today is feeder sale at Equity and my turn. Hope there aren't alot of beasts; but even a short day is long enough for me. I'm always the last one done, it seems like. But, I just keep plugging along and I get done. I'd rather take a little longer and do it RIGHT the first time than have to re-do because I made a dumb mistake.
