Just saw a great article in Garden Gate Magazine.
Wonderful species tulips.
Anyone know who carries a decent variety?
Its too late for this year but next spring I would love to see some.

I am looking at species in B&B and need to know what they mean by Early Spring-March? April ?
Is Late spring May?
Does anyone grow species in Z6a? Which Species blooms for you?

Here is my wish list:
If anything stands out please post a remark
LadyJane
Honkt Tonk
Alba Oculata (white w/lilac center)
Little Beauty
Odalisque
Whittallii
Stella
Shogun

The Alba Coerulea Oculata is a real beauty. a little pricey but one of a kind. Mine returned for a few years. Little Beauty was a successful force one year while my attempt to force Shogun failed. T. whittallii looks intriguing. My longest run w/ species outside was w/ T. tarda and T. linifolia. Z5b/6a. I'd probably agree w/ your assessments regarding seasonal designations, early as March, mid as April, and late for May.

I wanted to pair them with early iris.
Van Engelan will get a big order.I like their combos of Little Princess and Little Beauty. I have wittallii and it has returned for 4 years. It flopps a bit but its planted in a place where it gets mid to late day shade.

wittallii 2011

I am sure it bloomed last year ,just didnt pix it.

Your tip on longevity is important and I deleted some.
Have you experience with Odalisque?

No, but it might be worth trying as it's said to have a citrus fragrance. I might try to force some next year.

Odelisque looks so good with mis spring bearded iris Alamo Joe.
We are having a snow storm so I am making combos and hoping for good luck with bloom times.

Little Beauty is prolific and a sweet heart. I planted Alba Coerulea Oculata last fall so my fingers are crossed. I don't know if there are different strains or if climate/culture play a role but the one's I saw at the Smith College annual spring bulb show had blue centers. jmorth? They're small but real eye magnets.

I'd think it would be fine for you Jo Ann. We may be the same zone but your snow cover is way more than mine. PS I got mine from B&B. Also Dracunculus vulgaris and a few others.

Looking at your combo photos is a treat and an education. I've been trying to deal with JI and Lilies. Time will tell.
