They last as long as designer tulips do.Darwins are the longest lived. Its an expensive hobby when I use tulips.Deer eat them also.

I probably force about half as many as I grow outside. Thumb of 2013-02-08/jmorth/201d7a(mostly tulips and daffodils, but there's a couple pots of dwarf Iris in there)
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

So with Little Beauty which has greatly expanded for the last few years, and of which I've relocated many, should I expect eventual decline?

I bought a pack of ten Jo Ann. Planted them all together then fall 2011 removed maybe half (+-15 bulbs) and sprinkled groups of 3 around. Three isn't visually enough but am hoping this spring they'll have increased.

I found the this one increases rapidly for me. I planted 5 bulbs in 2011 and when I dug them up this fall I lost count of how many bulbs there were. And it seems to have a long bloom time.

Yay! I planted some of those this year! Hurray!

In raised areas. *Blush* I don't even like to think of the ones I've lost by planting them in ground-level areas. Sticking tongue out

Yes, Chelle mine are planted in raised beds, with fast draining soil. I think that is what it takes to keep many of the specie type narcissus healthy and multiplying. Yours should do well for you.

They are very pretty. I planted some of them myself not this fall but the year before. I fully expect them to come back and do well each spring.

They are such a beautiful little tulip. I love that their foliage doesn't take over the area they are growing in.
Would love to see a photo of yours next spring.

I redid the beds this last Oct/Nov, so when I dug up the bulbs I put some in several other raised beds. I was outside yesterday and noticed that some of them are already showing tips of foliage coming up. Sure hope this is not going to keep them from blooming this coming spring.

Yes! I tried some clusiana last year in my rock garden--

became my sudden favorite tulips because they are dang cute, withstand our winds well, and they don't have big-excessive tulip foliage that annoys me so much while it dies. I planted a bunch more this year, straight species and a few other varieties I don't remember at the moment.

Yeah, they are in my best, well-drained areas. I suppose if they get too out of hand I will put them where I have declining tulips and see how they fair there Whistling

I love that they increase well, that way I can move them to other parts of my yard.
