I'm pretty sure the cure is worse than the disease.
We had a ton of rain and a ton of slugs instantly appeared in my garden. I mean, like, slugs hunched over tiny seedlings, crowding out every leaf - slugs like I'd never seen before. Writhing carpets of slugs.
I picked off a lot but I decided to pull out the Sluggo and sprinkle the beds.
A day later, I realized that ants were lugging individual pellets away, a chipmunk that had usually been happy foraging in my compost was now foraging nonstop for Sluggo pellets, and I suddenly had a lot of blue jays perched around the yard, diving for Sluggo.

As much as Sluggo might work on slugs, I think I won't be able to see any results from it.
I haven't tried the DIY beer solution yet; that'll be next.
Is there anything else that would work, and I think I need to trap the chipmunk next, unless there's something that'll deter it?

Yeah, that's a common problem with slug pellets since they are baited with sweet-smelling substances. Expect those jays and chipmunks to get the mother of all stomachaches, and compared with what was once used they are getting away lightly.

I don't know what's up with slugs and snails this year, but they are insatiable and they never ever end. The only permanent solution against them are copper collars: basically build a barrier around your plants with copper tape. You can buy it on Amazon and if I'll have any parsley this year it's thanks to it: I lost 32 plants to slugs and snails and that's while using slug baits. Blinking
You can either cut a piece of tape and close it with... adhesive tape or coat the outside of a piece of PVC tubing with it. It's time consuming but... yeah, when baits don't work is the only thing left.
Slugs and snails cannot cross a copper surface (they get zapped: same principle as electrified fences) so it's an impassable barrier for them.

Diatomaceous earth works well to form barriers against slugs and snails, but has the major drawback of being easily washed away by rain and irrigation water so it needs to be reapplied constantly.
I am just another white boy who thinks he can play the Blues.

...and you can always sprinkle a few slug pellets beneath an overturned saucer set atop a stone...allow an inch of clearance and the slugs will still find the pellets (so will ants if they are so inclined) but it will prevent birds and rain.
I find myself most amusing.

Hilarious! Oh, you poor thing!! Sorry, I am not laughing at your concerns but the way you described it all! So funny!

I had a lot of snails a couple of. years ago. I sprinkled Garden Safe Snail and Slug bait all over, and it really helped a lot. I have only seen them come back finally this year, but they came back in another section of garden only. I cannot guarantee if you use it that the same thing will not happen, but you could try. Good luck and thank you for the laugh! Hilarious!
