At the moment, the greenhouses are at the pathetic looking stage .. once Spring gets here (looks like it might be a month late) and I get everyone 'back on their feet', I'll let you know.

My fishies do not look as much like fish as yours do. This plant survived the winter in the greenhouse and is coming into full bloom again. It has been blooming constantly, all winter. Some of the starter plants are blooming also. It is amazing. They are slow growers but when they get mature they are beautiful houseplants as well in our zone.
I am not a very good photographer either. At my age everything seems fuzzy. Rolling on the floor laughing

Thank You! She is about 6 years old and I have been selling her babies for years by taking cuttings and starting them in water. I also have a friend who has one of her babies that has grown into a really large plant and she keeps bringing me cuttings she started. They are very easy to propagate and I think one of the reasons she is so big is that she has been trimmed so many times because over the years taking cuttings. These plants are so under rated when it comes to houseplants. They are tough and take very little attention as you already know. They are slow growers but some of my babies bloom before they are very old. This old girl sat on the bottom shelf beside her babies getting afternoon sun at times, watered regularly until this year she got too big for the shelf so I put her on her own little table near her babies of course and she gets only filtered light all day. This is how she responded to that filtered light. She blooms all the time. I keep my shade cloth on the GH all the time to prevent burning. The sun is just too hot at times for the plants I grow.

OK, now I am really confused. My little "goldfish plant" is also called a "guppy plant" and was marked as a Nemantanthus wettsteinii when I purchased it.
The Columnea is also called a Goldfish plant but the flowers are different than the Nemantanthus for sure but, the Violet Barn has pictures of both and here they are:
First two pictures are Columnea from violet barn. They call them the Goldfish Plant. These pictures are from the VB. They are not mine.

Now, this picture is the Nematanthus from the Violet Barn. This photo belongs to the violet barn.

Now, here is mine. These are my plant as shown before.

I just want to be sure, since I am selling these is as Goldfish plant should I also list it as a "guppy" or am I safe just selling it as a Goldfish. I also have it listed as a Nematanthus wettsteinii. I do not want to mislead anyone but they are obviously different. I am wondering if mine was not named properly. I have had this happen before at the place I got it. Which I will not name but it is a very well known respected tropical plant dealer. I would like your comments.

As far as I'm concerned, Goldfish Plant is fine .. this is a prime example of why learning the Latin is so important. And it's really not as hard as you think. Once you get a few 'under your belt' you'll be spelling names like Impatiens niamniamensis with ease!

Unfortunately, Anne, when you see a plant like this in a catalog, you do not get choices.......you get that plant with no explanation that there may be 4 or 5 others that are similar and could be confused with the one you are buying. That is what happened to me. I am completely facinated with all the different plants that are so similar. I would love to have them all but then I would really be confused. LOL. Thanks for your comment. I think I am safe since I am using the Botanical name with it on the listings.

That's strange, I don't think I've ever seen a catalog or website that didn't list the Latin name as well. Sometimes though, you do have to look closely for it!

No you misunderstood what I meant. I was saying that in many catalogs you get to see just ONE goldfish plant....the one they are selling. Yes, most of the times they have the Latin names listed. Unless you are aware there are so many different species of Nematanthus and Columnea you would not know they exist when you are looking for a goldfish plant.

Many people who buy my plants do not have a clue there is even a difference because they are just looking for a goldfish plant period. Do you understand what I mean now? I am sorry I can not explain it better. It doesn't matter. I am sure I am selling it properly because I use the Latin name. Thanks for your comments.

I see what you're saying. On my part if someone asks for something with a generic common name and they don't provide the latin or a picture or link to a picture of what they want, I always ask them to be a bit more specific. That's an ongoing problem with Corkscrew/Snail Vine - both Vigna caracalla and the two common names used interchangeably if you're not all that familiar with it. There is a definitive difference between the two - one is multicolor and the other solid lavender. In cases like that I always provide pictures of both to see which one they are actually looking for.
