Please, can some one tell me what a fragrant old garden rose is? I would love to see what they are like before I spend my acorns.
Do you know which varieties they will be?

Lynn, if you go to the Antique Rose Emporium website, I believe the choice will be yours depending on what they have available. There are so many to choose from.

Everyone, please remember that these prizes make great gifts. Even if you don't grow roses yourself or you don't need the rose books, you must know someone who would love any of these prizes.

Lynn - a OGR - old garden rose - is a rose that was developed usually in France or in Europe. They're not like a typical "rose" shape. A lot will get über big, rambling, sprawling, and a lot are single blooming. However, I think all are either fragrant or highly fragrant. Drawbacks are that they're usually not as resistant to black spot, mildew, rust, or other diseases I think. I'm not an expert on OGR's, so I am not 100% sure. Also, you won't find many "modern" colors (mauve, orange, bright yellow). That's the primary reason why I don't have many OGR's.. I like the gaudy colors. Also, many are single or doubles, but you won't find many in the "classical" or "florist" shape. However, there are many in the "cabbage" shapes (very full).

All in all, OGRs are excellent roses!!
