I held my breath as I read your words and looked at the dog you love so much, afraid that your entry today would have a sad ending. I'm glad he is still with you.

Thanks, Ladies...

She's still with me, but I don't really know for how much longer. She's having some neurological issues (Doc says) and there are only so many things we can try to help her. So I'm treasuring the bonus days. Looking through those pictures really drives it home, though... the Casey of today compared to the Casey of 2009 are radically different. The first three pics are right after she retired - wasn't she stunning!?!?!?

Writing the post gave me a chance to vent my fears and my grief in a flood of tears, which I sorely needed. We might have 2-3 more years together, but I honestly don't think we will. She'll be 13 in March, and that's a good age for a greyhound. She's been loved unconditionally (and loved me unconditionally) for the last 9 years.

It's time to move into "pamper" mode with her, I think.

Yes, Casey was stunning! And she still is --- just in different ways.

Like the others..... one day at a time, unconditionally.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Thanks, Jewell.... some people paint with pigment -- I try to paint with words. Casey is still going strong, and like me, she's waiting for warmer weather. Thumbs up

Part of me thinks "I'm sorry I made you cry," and another part is doing a fist-pump and thinking "YEAH! I made her cry!" Hilarious! They really do get into our hearts, don't they?

Yes, you made me cry too. Thanks, I needed that.

I lost my Missie in October to cancer and I cry still every time I think of her. I had her for 11 yrs and remember all the time we had together. She didn't understand all the special treats and food she had at the end.. Just enjoyed it and I spent all the time I could with her. At the end, I was there with her and I hope she didn't understand what was happening. But she's free now and happy with all my other dogs that are there.. But that doesn't mean I don't cry and miss her every day. I have 2 others but they don't fill the hole in my heart where Miss was. Maybe some day......

The best gift we can give is to let them go. Too many times, we keep them around for ourselves, instead of doing what's best for them.
