Free recycled plant-pots

Refuse - can't always, nearly everything comes from a factory in plastic containers! Recycle - sure, but you don't know whether it actually is recycled, or at what cost. Reuse - Bingo!

What a fantastic idea! I never thought of keeping those containers to pot up plants. Will definitely file this in my need to remember file in my brain cabinet! I've been keeping all of my pots that plants come in from the garden center. But this is brilliant! Thanks.

In my area, cattle ranchers buy molasses/mineral cattle supplements in 25 gallon tubs. Many will give the empty tubs away if asked, and some want $3 - $5 each. Equivalent tubs in the store are about $30 each. They come in a variety of colors, too:

I use coffee cans for larger pots. They dont last more than a year because they rust a bit but are an excellent size for potting up. And even a year is a reuse. Remember to cut the lip off the top to make planting easier when the plants are larger and roots fill the can.

I ave used clear plastic egg cartons. While it is a little hard to make a drainage hole, the clear lid makes a little greenhouse. Just remember to lift the lid for air and moisture control.
