Where do those little dry, hard, brown sticks we poke into hams come from? Seed pods? Vines? Trees?

I sometimes like to stick a few cloves into whole onions and then drop the thing into the pot when making chicken soup. The combined flavor does something very special!

When you're not feeling well, you might like a nice glass of hot apple cider with cloves and a bit of cinnamon.

And lastly, I actually use clove oil in homemade toothpaste! It's wonderful!

Thanks for the wonderful article, I learned something new and really enjoyed it too.

They are the dried flower buds of an evergreen shrub; Syzygium aromaticum. I do not recall their native habitat other than Souheast Asia someplace, sorry.
I find myself most amusing.
