It appears to look different from a Japanese Holly Fern to me. I have both the Hardy Japanese Holly Fern and the Japanese Holly Fern and the later is larger leaved and shiny (also darker in color). I can imagine it wouldn't be difficult to mix the two up given the almost identical names.
