Kaktus said:It is more fun to grow adeniums when they are small, you can see the development of the roots, caudex , branches etc. Especially if you spend sometime to prune, raise caudex to get the shape that you want. Not to mention the root training. Adeniums are" lazy bonsai for lazy people "

totally I agree @Kaktus

this winter, many of my plants will be cut back ...and next spring, will raise the caudex(s)

My 3 months adeniums seedlings are not up to the challenge. They have not grown an inch. And a couple stunted 4 months are not going to make it. But I do have a few healthy ones.

I will have to up the watering since this week will be low 60s and highs will be in the mid 80s and it rained last night so the adult got rained and the seedlings got a taste of liquid gold.

I saw a video that did say that now is the best time to prune the adeniums. I thought pruning is done in spring.

To my understanding, pruning is best performed during their active growing time, the chance to get multiple branches are more.
But I also succes once in an experiment where the adeniun was in dormant stage for a couple of months, no leaf and no sign of life at all, I pruned it and that prunning wake him up, trigger some new branches.

I did this before when i was still living in Hawaii. I grew the seedlings for a few months. Then I planted them together, and tied them to ensure fusion. Not sure what happened after that. I had to leave all my plants behind in hawaii, when I moved to CA. Well, I hope it's doing well...

@Kaktus
Have you seen this

I used a similar technique, just without a wire frame. Also I used string/rope, as wire would damage Adeniums.

Yeah, have seen a lot of videos on how the bonsai lovers did to have a nice and big bonsai trunks. I like to try all different strange things and idea, curious to see the result, but I am a very untidy and messy person, not suitable in doing anything that need a lot of details and time Smiling

Did a hard prune on this pot, only later to realised that I've made a wrong decision, as those are all single/individual plants, I should have only cut the big ones and let the smaller one to grow bigger, it's too late now Crying

At least you have one left Hilarious!

I don't think my almost 5 months old adeniums in communal pots will grow big. They seemed to stop growing at 1 month. Let's see If they will grow to a decent size to be able to catch up with my newly planted seedlings.

I missed seeing your post yesterday. This looks like a good idea to transplant. I should have cut the lower portion of the paper cups and made them stand in new pots. Crying worried now as how much ever one is careful you end up disturbing the roots here and there

Mine look rough right now from winter, so I haven't taken a picture of them yet. I withheld watering for a few days so they don't look real happy right now. I'm hoping in a few days now that we have warmer weather, they will perk back up with a tiny sip of water.
