Thread OP

Hello! I just acquired a pretty out of control dragon fruit plant from a friend. I built a support and put it in the ground. This is what it looks like currently:

As I research dragon fruit plants I'm seeing the common method appears to be four plants, one on each side of the support post, like this example:

SO, my question is this. Should I cut this plant all the way down to one segment, and then put one single segment in the ground on the other three sides of the post and start from scratch? Should I cut the longest chains I can and plant those on all four sides? Do the cuttings need to be rooted in water before planting? I have no idea how to approach this. I just want the plant to be as efficient as possible. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Like most succulents, dragon fruit vine is incredibly easy to grow. Cut off a segment or a length, drop it on the ground where you want it to grow, and walk away. It only has to be in contact with the ground. Just make sure the distal end is pointing in the direction you want it to grow. That's it!
