Want some cuttings Tiffany? I would be trimming it down after the bloom period. So easy to stick it in soil and it grows. Do ice plant families survive in your area?

That would be so fun! TY so much for the offer! I'm happy to pay the postage or send something your way in trade if I have something you need. Few succulents can survive here even if hardy for the zone because winter is so wet, so I would keep it in a pot. I'll send you a PM in the next few days. :+)

It endures our wet winter here, been down to 32F and it still goes. Just got to keep the media very well draining, very gritty. I do grow it in containers and is positioned in full sun during winter. This winter has been terribly wet and our overnight cold duration was really long. But it grew well and bloomed this late winter.

I finally learned to position it in our sunniest area so it can make those nice blooms easily.

Some of my epiphyllums have buds! But will see how far along it goes..at times it makes some, but just blasts if our temps suddenly switches too hot and dry. Thankfully lots of sun but overall temps still cool, so it is still pushing the buds.

Thanks Deebie! It is a love-hate thing with this plant..such a long time to get that bud to bloom for just a one day show! But such a grand beauty indeed when it manages that bloom.

Since this thread is called "Blooming Succulents", I'm hoping someone will be able to identify these plants for me. I bought several and they are starting to flower - orange, pink, and white. But, because they had no tags, I'm clueless. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hello GrammaChar, they look like Lewisia cotyledon. Very drought tolerant, and loves very cool conditions. I used to have them, but found it so hard to see them through our very long super hot and dry months, they just go dormant here at that period to the point of looking so dead. I tried to give shade but just not enough. When I had them before I really make their media super gritty for that much needed drainage, so easy to make the mistake of overwatering. They are happiest here when the cooler conditions of Fall comes around, but winter is dicey since it rains here.

Just adding...tried to look for old photos of mine. Also actively blooming late winter to mid Spring, as long as conditions are still cool.

Thank you, tarev!!!! You nailed the id, and I appreciate the advice about growing them. Might bring them into the air conditioning when the temperatures heat up. Texas summers can be brutal.

Those are nice plants! I have always lost all of mine that I tried to grow in hot, dry, Arizona. They did not like our dry indoors anymore than being outdoors.

It is one tough beautiful plant to grow..I think it hates the excessive dryness of our poor humidity area. In its natural environement it is up in the hillsides, in a rocky slope, so I guess it gets frequent fog and cloud cover in the higher elevations.

Thank You! Well, it sounds like these little plants are temperamental. But I am enchanted with the blooms (which I will deadhead now that I know). And I like a challenge, so I'll post an update at the end of summer. Am already thinking about a pebble tray for humidity and a window with indirect light. Wish me luck.

When I bought these, I had no idea about their care. Thank you for the good information. I collect a LOT of succulents and like them for their ability to thrive on neglect. This species will be a new experience for me. Crossing Fingers!
