I tip my hat to you.

I purchased a 'Corkscrew Rush' a couple years ago and so far, it has not died back over the winter.

However, it doesn't look the best as there's a bit of old, dead foliage still present (I imagine all from the last two years).

Can I prune it back to the ground back Spring and it recover/regrow/look better?

Thank You! I tip my hat to you.

Did yours die back even if you didn't cut it back? I've noticed a lot of dead in mine (probably more than green, but I'm thinking I should of cut it back a couple years ago to allow more room for new growth).

I didn't think it got cold enough here for me to have to cut mine back (some places make it sound like they die back to the ground), but everything else around it dies back to the ground. Mine stays green, minus the stalks that decide to die over the winter. I think the only plant I have that doesn't die back come winter is my Shasta daisy.

It's getting a haircut next Spring! nodding

Update! I gave it a haircut toward the end of February. Most of the center looks dead ( Confused ), but we'll see what it does this year.

Funny timing. I spent 20 minutes yesterday with fine scissors trimming mine. I cut off the brown. For some of it that meant all the way back to the base

Do you prune yours yearly? It doesn't seem to get cold enough here to cause it to die back all the way, but I had a ton of brown throughout it that I imagine had been there for at least a couple years. I think it needed pruned sooner.

I prune it yearly when I can get to it. Sometimes it is mid summer before I make time for it. I have two clumps. It is surprisingly half evergreen for me

Interesting! Maybe that's a good one for mine too, half evergreen. Hilarious!

I ended up digging it up today.

The growth I cut resprouted, but looking closer at it, some of the base had no leaves at all (just empty dirt space) and there were a ton of like sheafs where the "leaf" had died and the sheafs were obviously dead.

I just don't see it resprouting in those bare spots/leaf sheafs and filling in those. I replaced it with something else. Sighing!

Which is okay I guess. It was supposed to look corkscrew-ish and it only ever had a handful of corkscrew shaped leaves. Most of them grew straight.
