I want to replace at least part of the aluminum roof of my GH/shed with clear or opaque panels and I am really confused. A quick peek @ L's website shows choices that are either about $25 or $200. DH built it, so there's no problem with the actual work, but I don't understand the available materials or why some are so much more expensive, or what kind would suit my purpose. TIA for any info you could share!

I see $25 and $38 - I think the difference there is thickness; I'd spring for the tougher one. Can't imagine what a $200 panel has that's worth the price. Ah, maybe I can! The expensive ones are probably polycarbonate .

You don't have a snow-load to consider. We get lots of snow, so we pitched the roof of the garage-tent steep enough to let it slide off. The $35 panels from Home depot worked fine, and we didn't buy all the under-foam and accessories: just 2x1 horizontal strapping at 18" intervals, pre-drill the holes and use a soft washer on the screws. We didn't have to do a lot of cutting, which I understand can be tricky with these panels. And of course, I don't know how long they will last. The ones on the unheated greenhouse have served well for six years.

Thank you for the link and info! That helps a lot. I see no need for the $200 version for my very small application, and could replace the $25 one 7 times for the difference in $.

Mine were very pricy but can withstand a Category 3 - 4 hurricane - the desert is a windy windy place.

Thank you! If winds like that come through, the shed is going to be relocated. It's just sitting on the ground. But it sounds like the $$$ roof panel would be intact and ready to rebuild, when found.

Exactly, "when found"... I have friends who have never found ANY parts of their greenhouses. Mine is bolted to an 18 inch deep concrete foundation with 6 inch I-beams holding it all together. It has withstood 90 mph winds but usually 60 - 65 mph. Daily winds are 25 - 45 mph. Its hard to keep my vegetables in the ground until they root well.

Those are harsh conditions! I can see why your things need to be so strong.
