I have swapped seeds on Dave's Garden, cubits and GardenWeb, but never here. Someone mentioned bidding and that left me " out in the cold"! I have a lot of seeds. If there is bidding involved, then I am not interested.

Is there a thread explaining the rules...and the dates?

Thank you,

Evelyn

Hi Evelyn!

It's probably best to start by explaining the "bidding" is actually "dibbing" -- meaning "calling dibs" on someone's offer (claiming it) once the swap gates open.

Trading in the Mile High swap (https://garden.org/apps/swap/v...) is currently scheduled to begin on November 29 and end on December 5.

This video might answer some initial questions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... but please ask follow-ups as you think of them.

Evelyn, this swap is much like the swaps you've mentioned ("bidding" or "dibbing" instead of "oinking" Hilarious! ). You will have a great time! Hurray! Let us know if you have any questions after you watch the video.

Duh I just edited because I see I made the same mistake as the other person and put the word "bidding" instead of "dibbing" lol, sorry about that; it should say DIBBING. Or maybe it automatically corrected my spelling.

There is still DND's All seeds swap. Usually a good option for folks with un-named and species seeds but not necessarily a lot of them and not necessarily named varieties.

I love the addition of species plants and some unnamed cultivars. That will help me out a bunch to get to the 100 varieties.

Thanks. I joined DND's swap last year & loved it & joined again this year.. I had also joined the other one that is not being hosted this year & was planning to join again this year. I was just really wanting to join two large swaps this year as I did last year.

I have mostly veggies this year because most of the flower seeds I managed to plant are perennial or biennial & didn't flower this year.

I have about 30 varieties of tomatoes. I'm trying to figure out just how many types of seeds I will have this year. My plate is full.

Hmmm. I actually already was adding species types because I assumed they were included--a species name being a name after all. Smiling I figured it just was the really vague varieties, such as "blue columbine" which weren't allowed. So I'm happy with the change!

Can someone look over my swap list and point out items not allowed? Confused Confused Confused I am feeling really stupid and not understanding the difference in " named variety's " vs species. Can anyone dumb it down for me? Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

The biggest confusion for me is with flowers. Example would be 4 o'clock's, I have them in i think 4 different colors. so does ' white 4 o'clock' meet the guidelines?

Also, i assume that means mixed variety's of flowers is not allowed?

Thanks all.

Hi Olivia! Let's see if I can help. Species aren't technically varieties. An example is if you offer Morning Glories. Not a variety. But if you offer Star of India Morning Glory that is a variety.

That being said, we are allowed to offer 30 species/unnamed varieties out of the 100 offers we have to list.

I'm assuming, a mistake common to me, that if you are listing seeds in excess of 100, that requirement does not apply once you hit 100? I still have quite a few to list as time permits.

Thank you, Elena. That helps! I haven't kept up with all of the threads or any changes and wasent sure if i would even participate in this swap. Since the DND got pushed back i figured why not? I have more seeds then i know what to do with over here. But dont we all? nodding Last year i didnt start nearly as much as usual beccause of a recent move and kids.

@poisondartfrog I was wondering about that too! I have listed 100 named varieties but still have more to list and some of them are species. I do hope I'm allowed to list them too!

My labels faded so I have quite a few peppers that I am pretty sure of the name of but would feel better listing as unknown. Thanks
