Went to see my parents in southern NM this past weekend (3/1-3/3) and boy was it WINDY!!! OMG I thought I was gonna end up in TX or OK with the winds! But warm warm.. beautiful weather! Got back home to CO last night (3/3) and it's snowing today.

Go figure.

Anyone got anything blooming?

Warm and WINDY here too. My weather vane even blew down! However about 1/3 of my roses are blooming to some extent - and getting quite wind tattered. In around two weeks everything should be glorious, but If I don't do something soon, they will be completely hidden by the weeds.

I heard on the weathernews that we are supposed to get a big storm Wednesday and overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Depends on the track yet as to if it would be rain or snow or a combo of both. The news I just watched said a combo of rain and snow.

Katie - Why can't you grow zone 6/7? I do and I'm just as cold as you are. Just got a new fresh inch of snow today.

I ordered more sugar snap peas. I got Super Sugar Snap and I already have Cascadia and something else left over from last fall. Plan to plant peas early this spring. I have seeds for cucumbers so thinking I don't need those but do need to get my yard long beans for this year. No real big hurry on them, can't plant till it warms up. Peas have to be planted early though, they are a cool season crop.

And so begins the veggie crazies for another year. Rolling on the floor laughing

I grow the snap peas in the winter here - along with broccoli, lettuce, mustard greens, etc. My fall garden usually does better than the spring one. I do plant tomatoes each spring - in fact I should have them in by now, and I love the yard long beans too. We really had no real winter so the pepper plants lived through it. I usually get in trouble by planting watermelon and squash and other viney things that swallow up the whole vegetable garden.

I'm going to be putting in some corn, pumpkins, & watermelon this year. Plus tomatoes. Hopefully I'll get something to grow! I haven't really tried to grow veggies in YEARS..

I really love just going out into the garden and picking fresh veggies. Tomatoes are my very favorites but I can't do without my cucumbers, peans and bean also.

Toni, I try, but it just doesn't work out well for me. I've only had 2 hybrid teas that have made it past winter, and both are terribly sad looking. Even many of my Austins are sad sad sad. Pat Austin is one of my faves, and she has been reduced to 3-4" sticks....and that's with ample winter protection! The die back is just too hard on them. I've tried a variety of types of winter protection....cages with leaves, mulch, peat moss...nothing seems to work well.

Pat austin is so short that the whole plant gets pretty much buried, with maybe the tips sticking out so I know the plant is still there. I shovel dirt on the bud unions (if they aren't buried already....some weren't planted as deep as they should have been) then add mulch on top. 6 inches, maybe?

It is very windy out and supposed to get more windy. A big storm is coming our way and last night I heard at least 9 inches expected before it is done by Friday afternoon. Guess spring is not comming here too soon ha-ha.

The walkabout the garden today showed more daff blooms trying to open. Today is the day to take a look as we are going to get a winter storm starting this evening until Friday afternoon. Expecting at least 9 inches of snow. But the poor daffs are not doing that great, they are laying on the ground and not quite open all the way. Kind of stuck at that stage. We need this winter weather to end and spring to come so that more blooms can arrive.

These with blooms are the very early type daffs I have. And they are in the sun in the front yard. Other daffs of all types have broken ground and are up all over the garden. Some even have bloom buds. But unless we get nicer weather nothing is going to happen very soon around here. And you all know I can't wait for spring and my flower bulbs to bloom.

We had snow overnight, at least 6 inches. still snowing slightly so I haven't been outside yet so not sure exactly. I hate it when it snows here.
