I bought a pack of the Tri-Color Spyraxis you see in the dollar stores last year. I potted them up last March and they bloomed two months later in May. Here is what they looked liked and was wondering where the tri color was I wasn't impressed with them at all.



They bloomed again this year, two months earlier than last year and they look totally different! No question about the tri-color .. I love these and am planning to buy many more

How odd, but they are striking, this year. i

Flower color is controlled by enzymes. As with most flowers, soil and ambient temperature can have a subtle to radical affect on flower color and even patterning. Since they bloomed in May last year, the warmer temps, about 25 degrees warmer, is most likely what made them go almost all red. Now is probably their normal bloom time and the soil and ambient temps are much cooler.

Not knowing that I may have been tempted to pull out! so, good that I learned that today.

I can see why you would want more/ Very nice.

They are a total surprise - I think there are maybe 5 bulbs per pack which make a nice clump - I'm going to let the ones I have now loose in a contained bed and see if they might be invasive which will determine how I use them - the fact they are so cheap makes me think they might be.

I've bought sparxis from the dollar store few years back and they did look like the 2nd pic. Unfortunately they did not come back (I think the grubs got to them) so I will look for them again. They are very pretty!

I love these. I need to go back to Dollar Tree.
