If a person has zoom capabilities of 200mm or more, then stand away and zoom in. What you get is compression of detail which Margret uses. She has 800mm zoom lens and uses it well to get in the max detail in minimum space.

Thanks everyone....I don't have a fancy camera with a fancy zoom but am often happy with the results. Quite frankly I don't understand all the possible settings and am not one to experiment. Greg....I was pleased with the tulip close-up. Sometimes I post pictures that end up going directly to the data base and aren't viewed so I use some as my avatar which I change frequently. This was one.
