JungleShadows said: Evan, In '20 I put all the big ones in one bed and allowed the bees to cross them and those groups are already showing some very large plants. (Amazingly it was just 3 generations to get the big ones.)

Kevin, was it this bed?

That sure looks like the bed, Bev. It looks like they had just been transplanted, and look at how great they look.

Here are photos of my new Chick Charms Giants:

They are just young offsets right now, but very large for offset.

Bev,

Yes that's just as they were transplanted. Hadn't even gotten the chick grit down yet!! They would increase in size after that; they were probably only 5-6" in diameter at that point.

Bev, could you take a picture of kevin's bed with something for scale? I just want to see how huge those semps are. Their color and size is very amazing.

There's some piece of money on the bed in the photo?

Yes, that bed of Big Ones deserved a big bill with Benjamin on it for scale. Sorry the photos were taken back in pre-Covid time of May 2019. Haven't seen that bed since then. I imagine Kevin has seen much growth of those big ones since.
I've been sheltering-in since and won't be going over (with a soccer ball) to look again till end of April. I'll try and see if they're still there to photograph.

Here's a close up of a couple of rosettes back then in 2019

How did I not notice the dollar bill in the first photos! Probably because it looked so tiny (compared to the semps). I really like the color of the purple-red one.

Not any E coupon rides but a personal tour or an occasional Bellini served can suffice...

RJ,

I'm on a pretty impressive hill so we could probably arrange a special ride for you!

Evan, At least you're on the West Coast!

Next year I'll have 30K seedlings that should be big enough to evaluate. Many of these are giant crosses.

Here is a group of 'Pink Pearl' seedlings. This growing season will be their last chance to show if there is anything special about them. All have stayed healthy and have never been cleaned of dead leaves. All things have to come together in order to make the cut. This is their second year from germination, and they just started showing color this year.
