Tip: Uneven Sun Exposure for Potted Plants

By webesemps
March 10, 2013

In my experience, sun exposure for my potted succulent plants is never optimal. When one side of the pot gets more sun than the other side, I notice that leaves on one side become longer or stems begin to stretch towards the sun. This will sometimes disrupt the compactness and aesthetics of the plant. It helps to regularly rotate the pots to ensure even sun exposure. Rotation can be as simple as turning a pot 45 degrees.

Bev, this is a wonderful tip. I started doing it a couple of years ago and noticed a big improvement in appearance of the plants. Thumbs up
Love the container combo you used in the tip. What are the plants?

Gee, I had to research...Yuk! But here's what I got so far, and if anybody has a more accurate ID please feel free to pipe in; I would appreciate it. In the meantime I will also try to fill in any blanks to names I don't have yet.
There is in the pot Echeveria agavoides var.corderoyi, Echeveria glauca, Echeveria agavoides "Lipstick", Sedum spurium 'John Creech', Sedum rupestre 'Angelina'(?) and Sedum noid.

Great tip for all containers Bev, but you're right - it really makes a difference for succulents.

Very nice! good tip! I often go to people's houses and turn their plants, they usually just look at me in an odd way but don't say much! Confused Rolling on the floor laughing
I do love that planting! Should have realized that it is one you did, rather than just a photo you took! Nice job I tip my hat to you.

DH's name is Grua (pronounced with 2 syllables), but looking at it and pronouncing it, you wouldn't think so. But he says it is. I took his name and have to explain it sometimes. Really like the 'typical' Italian names with their pronunciations.

Not necessarily knock it down (poor choice of words). I mean to pare/prune/dissemble to smaller proportion. I have boundries that I want the aesthetics to keep within and when things grow beyond that, I intervene. Trying to keep in check: scale, proportion, even distribution of color and texture, etc.
