Jeanne ~ Thank you. I won't know until later in the year which ones are dormant and which ones are dead. It's funny that some look really dead with no sign of green whatsoever and others have a full fan, even those in pots! Of course, the full fan is the exception. Most have 3 or 4 leaves. Some are looking quite moldy with no green showing, so we'll see.

Ev: I wonder long term, for those that survived, if the Fire will benefit your gardens. Isn't ash good for soil? Did you have a lot of ashes fall?

Wood Ashes are a source of potash. It will raise the Ph of the soil. It is common in some areas to dig powdered fireplace ashes into the soil.
