I'm trying to find some southwestern native oaks for our campus; Cal Poly Pomona. A dozen or so of any species would be great.
I'm a Gardener Specialist in Landscape and Horticultural Services and trying to diversify our campus forest.

I can send you two varieties that grow up here if you tell me where to send them.

We have plenty of Coast Live Oak. What is the other one? Or is neither one Quercus agrifolia?

John, I think one of them is the Coast Live Oak that grows on my property according to pics I looked up.. The other is one that widely grows here in the Sacramento Valley to gigantic sizes. Leaves are smooth and larger. I can post a pic a little later today. There are three humungous trees at the rose garden where I volunteer and I will drop by there today and see what I find and take a pic to post, The area flooded last week so that may affect finding acorns..

Here is what kind of Oak is at the rose garden, and I found plenty of acorns, some on the ground starting to split that had probably got a good soaking the week before.

That looks like Quercus lobata, Valley Oak. I could use some of those.

Good to know that you managed to find some acorns! Here in the bay area, most of the acorns are rotten...I was unable to find any other trees with good acorns.

Perhaps you would like to tree-mail me an address to send them to?

Oops! I thought I had earlier today. Check it now.

Anyone in Arizona, New Mexico or Texas have acorns?

South Texas, mostly Quercus nigra, some are what I think are Sand Post oak, or just plain Post oak, hmm, I have a Black Jack oak and some I cannot name because I think they are a cross, just in my yard alone, but there are several more varieties in the region
Edit to add IF the squirrels have left any acorns...
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!

Another thing, if you need cork bark oak acorns... I think I might know where to find a tree.

@kittriana, those all sound like great choices! I'll tree-mail you.

@Aeonium2003, those I have already. In fact, when we built our new Student Services building we got Apple's leftovers from their new offices. My old boss called them "Apple trees". Hilarious! If you can find any Canyon Live-oak that would be nice.

Thanks for your help.

From what I can key out, it's Post Oak (Quercus stellata). If you can find some acorns I'll give it a try.
