What a magnificent color of the leaves complimenting the bloom. Is this leaf color all year round or just as the season of Fall arrives?

Gorgeous banner!
I don't think those are clematis leaves. Is the clematis growing up through a tree or shrub? Smoke-tree maybe?

Thanks all!
The foliage is actually a purple smoke tree that the clematis is climbing. It's purple spring thru summer and then gets red/purple in the fall before it goes almost black and yellow.
The clem has green leaves, just like all the others, which you can see a bit of in the slice.

The dark purple smoke tree leaves make a perfect contrast for the Empress clematis.
