Only another month before winter solstice and planting can commence. I am going to go ahead and WS poppies, snapdragons, and maybe some violas then leave the rest for Jan/Feb. It's been about 3 yrs since I have traded seeds and I'm so excited about getting many new varieties from the DND Swap that commences in Jan. I think I'm going for a lot of annuals this yr to fill in the empty spots and cover up the holes where perennials have bloomed themselves out. I need to burn holes in the bottoms of my clear solo cups, make some tags, and stickers that go on the tiny packets.
How far are you along with your WS plans? Thumbs up

I have collected every thing that I need for WS.
But have not started except I scattered poppy seeds over the bulb plantings.
I am probably going to do perennials by WS because several require a chill before they sprout.

I have lots of jugs, but my seeds are totally a mess! I cleared off the dining table last spring and just shoved them all into a bin. I have lots of "elderly" seeds, but I know many are probably still viable. I'll sow thickly, and if even 5% germinate, I'll get more than I need. Green Grin!

I don't start until Groundhog's Day, not only because that date appeals to me but also because we often have a warm spell in January, followed by our coldest weather of the season. If I WS'd on the solstice, too many seeds would pop up and then freeze to death. I've been told that just winnows out the less hardy, but to me it just wastes seed.

I'm finally caught up with putting up seeds saved last year, making my sowing selections for 2022, intending to begin winter sowing mid-February. Last year I adopted a "jug-a-day" routine that seemed to bring me a greater mindfulness to the method. I'll be adding this chart to my 2022 wintersown routine - 81 jugs in 81 days. As I fill it in with each w/s'ed container, I hope it helps to curb my impatience for warmer weather here in the frigid north!

What a great idea! Anybody can do just one container... and the next day, one more! Good way to keep track of what you've planted, too.

I'm not sure if I'd fill containers as I go along, though, or if I'd try to prep a weeks' worth on Sunday afternoon.

I'll keep this in mind, as I purge my oldies but goodies, 2010-2016 🤞

A jug a day sounds like a good way to approach winter sowing. Might do that too. And use up old seeds too.

I've not been able to do any gardening for the last couple of years. So I have a bunch of seeds saved up that I refuse to throw away but don't feel right about offering to others. You folks have talked me into giving my WS jugs another go and something to look forward to for this year.
Thank You!

Finished my wintersowing two weeks ago. Just in time for a decent run of real winter weather. I'll start a few seeds in the house beginning of April. And I'll start some annual flowers in containers outside late April.
