I ordered Leander from David Austin USA this spring. I planted right away and have not removed the tags. Now it is blooming and I am dubious that this is Leander. Do any of you have experience with this rose? Could this really be Leander? I have not contacted Austin's yet but, with a second opinion fron you all, I'm ready to.

I've not grown Leander, but I've seen a lot of pictures of it. And they all depict a rose with some yellow in the flower. (I know that color can be highly variable in some DA roses, but I have no reason to believe it is nearly this variable in Leander) Austin describes Leander's color as "deep apricot" which this definitely is not. Austin's The English Roses depicts a flower distinctly apricot in color, cupped and quartered. I don't see any of that organization in this flower. Although it is a little bit too closed to show quartering, it still looks a little too informal compared to my expectations. I would definitely send DA roses a photo of the flower and ask for a replacement.

Thanks, Steve. I'll see what Autin's thinks it is as well. Its pretty, but not the right color for the bed I had it in. Will need to move it.

I did e-mail David Austin USA and got a responce almost immediately! They are offering to replace and they feel that the rose pictured above is Gertrude Gekyll. I don't have any experience with that rose, although it is on my "list".

I'm thinking this one wants to grow on my fence of climbers! I'm off to research now! Hurray! Hurray!

Congrats! GJ is on my list, too. Once I find a good place for it.
