Thread OP

Hello all,

A friend of mine gave me a small start of her golden crocodile philodendron that she said she thinks broke off of her plant about 3 days before I received it (meaning it didn't receive any water and just laid in the soil for 3 days). She things the kids broke it off when they came to visit. But anyways, she gave the cutting to me and said that if i can revive it, I can have it. I'm really eager to get this plant to root, but I'm already noticing some issues with this hope. First, it's mid winter which is not an ideal time for rooting plants. Second, the start she gave me is pretty young. Third, I've had the plant in a vase of filtered water (and applied rooting hormone) for 3 days, and I'm not seeing any progress. The cutting already had some small roots on it, but I'm not seeing them grow at all. The cutting appears to be staying healthy though, it's still firm and the undamaged part of the opened leaf is still plump and firm. I've changed the vase water with filtered water daily to ensure no rotting occurs. Heres some pictures of what I have going on:

Do I have any hope here? Should I apply rooting hormone more frequently? Should I do tap water instead of filtered water for more minerals? Or should I try going straight to soil? Please help!!

You should ditch the water altogether, dip it in rooting hormone ONCE, put it in a clear plastic cup with drainage holes poked in the bottom in damp sphagnum moss, and leave it alone. It may take MONTHS, especially in winter, for roots to start forming at a good rate. DOn;t keep setting it back by pulling it out and looking. Just leave it alone

Thanks, it's been in peat moss for a few weeks now and is growing new leaves slowly but surely. Do you apply any kind of fertilizer?
