considering a membership at the Seed savers Exchange

Anyone here join ? What was your experience?

I don't need more seeds , it is just hard not to look and feel involved

also looks like they have a good reciprocal at places I visit.

This is not a direct answer to your question, but:

Some of my fellow master gardeners are members, and have become quite involved after taking training with the organization. We now host a seed swap every year that is headed by those members, and it's an amazing event for learning to save seeds, swapping seeds and buying seeds. We've also started several seed libraries with seeds that members have saved (and some that seed companies have donated ). We have a lot of great speakers at our seed swap, as well. It's a great learning experience.

I would say it has been a huge benefit to our group that some members have become active with Seed Savers.

My sister gave me a membership for Christmas
I have 4 packs of seeds a sticker, card , lots of information, and will be getting a magazine.
I will be looking into the details after the new year when there is more time

I often visit Wellfield botanic Gardens in Elkhart and Newfields in Indy they both appear to have a reciprocal agreement

You said you have a seed exchange ? Is that among just your members or open to the public?

Hi, Cinda:

The seed libraries we have started are for the public. We have locations in a few of our libraries, as well as at our county fairgrounds.

Our Master Gardeners group also holds an annual Seed Swap. We have speakers, education sessions on saving seeds, seeds for purchase, trade, and some garden-related vendors. It is open to all, and no admission. I think we missed last year due to covid, but are still on track for our next one in a few weeks.

I made it to the seed swap
Was lots of fun and lots of seeds
Came home with a couple dozen new seeds, some free some swapped with others.
I asked a lot of questions at the Library table

I'm so happy you made it!!! It was not quite as big of an event as we've had in the past (our county health department took over our main building for vaccinations/testing).

Can't wait to hear what new seeds you are growing and how they do.

I just read recently that one of our seed libraries gave out something like 5000 packets of seeds. Multiply that by 4-5 for all of the seed libraries we support and that is amazing. That being said, our Master Gardeners group is 300+ members strong, so we are a powerful group. It is amazing what our members accomplish.

Wish I'd have known you were attending. I know we've chatted here for quite some time--it would have been nice to meet you in person.
