Thread OP

Any ideas on what could be going on with my Baucarnea lately? I've been cutting off many brown leaves/tips to the point where the entire thing looks kinda funny lol. The brown/yellow spots are a new thing. It is definitely not underwatered. I water it once every two weeks about half a liter (500ml). Too much? Could it be something else?

Thanks in advance,
Ilhan

I'm not entirely sure about the spots, but I think the big problem is it needs lots more light. That might be what's causing the browning too.

Welcome!
Sympathies! I love my Beaucarnea.
I agree, the newer leaves look too pale and wanting more light.
Plant it and they will come.

Hi & welcome! Agree with the recommendations for more light. When you water, do you take the inner pot out to make sure there is not water filling the decorative outer pot?

Hey! I have checked the outer pot and no there is no water in the decorative pot I make sure of that. I moved it to where it can have more sunlight and it seems a lot happier now. I also have forgotten to mention that it used to be directly under my AC which is on at 22ยฐC/71.6ยฐF for 24/7 as I use it for heating during winter. I moved it so it is not directly in the blast of it and combined with the suggestion about sunlight it does seem much happier. Some of the browning already healed up to a degree. It might seem obvious to you but for me I'm just starting out with plants so this was good advice! Thank you Smiling

You might find the plant looks a little less funky if you stop cutting off the dead tips and just let the leaves hang there until they dry up and detach easily from the base. At least that's what I do. The dead tips are part of the natural appearance of the plant. The more light, the better indoors, as others have suggested. Right in front of your sunniest southerly facing window would be ideal (assuming you're in the northern hemisphere). The plant is also pretty huge for the size of the pot, but it probably would be best to wait until spring to make any changes there.
