I was outside with my camera, taking some photos of a few new orchids that I just purchased, and decided to take some photos of the pond and back yard areas. I haven't taken photos of the pond in almost 4 years. This is what I see daily. You can't tell because of the distances involved (for example, my backyard is 300+ feet wide), but there are now 50 plumeria in-ground in the photo of the backyard.

Beautiful place Ken! You bought your new place at the right time! What a wonderful retirement place!

Our house is paid off and I am "dreaming" someday in the future Whistling Whistling , when I retire we can sell our place and get a bigger yard to with a pond, outside the City. I love pond... ours is just a small retention pond but I like it a lot.

Thank you, Gigi, and thank you for the gift. When we began looking for a home in FL (our only child was in Sarasota and that was a 12 hr. drive for us), we had "wants" and "don't want" for our (several) realtors. The first thing listed in the "don't want" category was "HOA". One of the first items listed in the "want" category was 1 acre. We have far more land than we needed. I simply wanted room for an equipment shed, for a shadehouse, and room for plantings. We we bought this house nearly 4 yr. ago, there was nothing built outside (the house was built 20 yr. ago). I built the equipment shed first, then the lanai, and finally the shadehouse. Other than the landscaping done adjacent to the house, the palms (50+), Australian Pines, a couple of oaks, and Black Olive trees, there were no plantings. Some of these plants were put in when the house was built in 1997, but the Australian Pines were put in when the orange grove was established in the 1920's. I've now put in White Bird of Paradise's, Orange Bird of Paradise's, pineapples, Tropical Giant's, colorful hibiscuses, Pride of Barbados trees, lime trees, Orchid Trees, and a Florida Coral Tree, loquat, ,mango, and a lemon tree. And of course, all the plumeria.

I've got so much property that it almost looks sparse on that backyard photo. Whistling

I have learned to love our retention pond also. It was a difficult adjustment coming from a deep water river but this is right for us now. I wish I had Ken's energy and enthusiasm but in reality I do not and can no longer maintain all that. We sure did not plan on having neighbors so close but have been so fortunate in that the neighbors we have are great. We have plenty of ducks, geese, turtles, snakes Blinking , deer, the occasional gator and now a bear - but I have not seen it yet. I zoomed in on some Mallards in the mist across the pond this morning.

Oh your pond is beautiful too! We have occasional ducks 🦆 . I have a lot of this Hawaiian red Ti/cordyline.

Costco sells this camellia sometimes. Next time I see it, I will get one.

It is nice to have a pond! Thumbs up
Our place came with an existing, but then much filled-in pond. We had it freshly dug out a couple years after we bought the place. We love it!

I hope it will do well here in FL. I love its blooms. I've been looking at it for a couple years now but I didn't know much about it.

This is our first pond (some folks here call it a small lake, but it's just a pond). 50 years ago, we built a home on a bluff overlooking a river and then five years later, built a home a block from the Gulf. That was in my early Mississippi days, where I had my first dental practice in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

It was raining hard this morning and strong winds. I was dreading that my adeniums got soaking wet and blooms were gone. (I took pictures yesterday.)

To my surprise, my adeniums were not soaking wet under my back porch. Just enough drizzle so had to grab my camera to take photos of still beautiful blooms:

I think they will Glenn, they probably are just sleeping. As long as you keep them dry. I was so nervous that the rain got my adeniums soaking wet. Wet and cold are Adenium killers.

Jason, who is kind of our Adenium volunteer moderator said no more watering until spring.

All my Desert Rose plants are outside, and they are getting soaked at the moment. I've never brought any of them inside in the 4 yr. that I've been in Vero Beach. I've never lost one. I guess I've just been lucky.

Yes, you are… I think you have a warmer winter. They are forecasting below 40s for us, plus overcast. Not a good combination. I have no place to bring them indoors. So they have to survive on their own.

Our prediction is for 42 in the early AM tomorrow. But it's supposed to warm up to a high of 65. The rest of the week is moderate though, lows in the mid 50's and highs in the mid 70's. Next week is about the same story, though a couple of degrees colder, both lows and highs each day. All this is pretty much typical weather for January.
