L. squamigera:
straight yellow pollen things
green inflorescence stalk
asymmetrical bloom
petals less pointed

A. belladonna:
curly white pollen things
dark stalk
radially symmetrical blooms
sharply pointed petals

There are some other pics in A. belladonna that should be moved to L. squamigera.

@purpleinopp Tiffany, thanks for pointing out these two similar plants. You get today's "eagle eye" award! I agree with you that my photo is of Lycoris squamigera, and I have asked for my photo to be moved. The most easily distinguished characteristic for me is the color of the bloom stalk, so I agree that several photos listed as A. belladonna need to be moved. In addition to the characteristics you listed, one of the other distinguishing characteristics I found is that L. squamigera is found in range 5-9 (per Missouri Botanical Garden), but A. belladonna is cold hardy only in zones 8-10 (per North Carolina state extension dept). Since I have no problem growing this in an unprotected zone 7b garden, my plant cannot be A. belladonna. If it is ok with you, I'd like to add the following comment to each of the database entries. "Lycoris squamigera and Amaryllis belladonna can be easily confused. L. squamigera has a green inflorescence stalk, versus a dark stalk on A. Belladonna." Or do you think we should also list the other distinguishing characteristics as well?

Happy to suggest. : ) If you're making a comment, I can't put words in your mouth.
