Fuego outer leaves aren't as soft as yesterday on main plant anyway. Inner are still firm.

it's damp, but my drainage is pretty good. They do seem to be firmer this morning.

@Sedumzz you remember where your sedums are? I can't remember where mine are, they will have to spring up and say hello in the spring. Glad your semps are good.

My sedum always look bad this time of year some like coral reef look like moosh. They usually all come back though with no problems. Most of my sempervivum look good except for pekinese and a few tiny plants. I assume pekinese got to dry that seems to be the cause of the yellow translucent leaves? I watered all of them like Lynn said to do and they firmed up and are looking much better. The plants I don't protect from the rain have not dried out at all this winter and they are all just fine. I have a Graptopetalum that has been outside 2 years it gets smaller every year not good for zone 7 or needs to be dryer then I keep it in the winter. And aloe aristata looks to of roted.

I know that OldmanDan lives in NC and does not protect his semps from rain. He just uses a mix that drains well.
Same for me here in the PNW, lots of rain this time of year. The semps get no protection from the wet and freezing cycles.
Glad they are doing better Daniel. Thumbs up

I'm only protecting mine from extreme wind. we go from 70 to 20 degrees in a couple of hours with extremely cold winds and I lost half my semps last year because they were elevated. However elevated gives them best hours of sunlight, so it's up and down for me, but so far no rain hat since the 8 inch rainfall this past august I think

Good morning Dan,

Impressed that you kept your aloe aristata outside. Does it normally make it through your winters?
I have always been afraid to push it. Our small one goes in the cool shed for the winter (35° +)
55° down to 13° after a heavy rain was more than a lot of plants were impressed with. A lot of potted mostly hardy stuff I would normally leave out got tossed into the cool shed for a week. The larger pots left outside are still a bit frozen towards the center.
We made it down to frost/light freeze several times since November 16, but mostly highs in the 40s to 60s. A lot of the tougher plants had a bit of new growth.

Most of our sempervivum have a small to large ring of mush today.

Light green cousin. New to us.

Most of the evergreen ferns and hellebores that got sun during the cold snap show some damage. The fully shaded ones look great.

One of the very few without damage/mush ring here.

One of my favorite rollers.

Hi Matt. Great photo of what looks to be a roller type.
Your label of 'Henry Correvon' is with an incorrect semp (roller type). 'Henry Correvon' is an S. heuffelii.
I find that most semps will have a ring of dead leaves under the rosette. Some semps are good at hiding them, until you dig them up, then you find those old dead leaves under the rosettes. It is really nice when we breed semps that tend to hide the old layer of leaves. Makes for a pretty picture during the winter and early spring months.

I do not have any rollers. That might be a good one to try. I am seeing a ring of mush on some of my semps, discovered it on a webby this morning. Will have to see how things go
