Astro orange is hot! Also decorative. Habaneros are too hot, so it's hard to give them away and they tend to be too hot for me to use very much. They sure are prolific and decorative, though. They need to be harvested before the freezing nights coming up beginning Friday night.

That was exactly my experience with growing habaneros, Donald - too hot, hard to give away, prolific, and decorative! I really didn't expect them to do so well in my northern location Hilarious!

Sharon made chilli but did not use the chiles in the the fridge; approx a dozen, most sweet pepper but some have some heat.
Tomatillos are also still in the fridge.
I guess I will have to make my own chille or I could cut them up and make another bag of chilli base, and add it to the menagerie in the freezer. Blinking

It has been a great season, but yesterday I called the outdoor growing season for peppers in my garden.

The last remaining fruits were harvested at varying degrees of ripeness.

Thumb of 2022-11-14/MattMagusson/f238a6

A couple of Jamaican bell peppers, habaneros, and ghost peppers (Bhut Jolokia).

Some plants will be pruned back and spend winter indoors to come back strong next season.

Thankfully I still have plants to worry about indoors Hilarious!
Spending way too much time on my knees in the garden.

They are beautiful, mine are still outdoors, I tried the bring them in thing, and aphids popped up out of nowhere at the end of Dec. I have no use for bugs in my house, so, new year, new plants.
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!

Thanks kittriana

I cut my plants right back to above the first "Y" split, clean the roots bulbs and re-plant in perlite heavy soil.

I am not claiming a 100% success rate but it usually works.

It is a bit of work but any excuse to get my hands dirty as the temperature drops over here Smiling

Mine, too. It's really cold here, annuals are all dead.

I used some of my Big Jim peppers that I dried to make some Texas Red chili yesterday. It turned out very good and today I used some to make Cincinnati style chili. Diced onion and some melted cheese on top. So good.

I use my pepper flakes in chili, not much because I don't care for it to be too hot. My son adds more flakes AND hot sauce! I also make my own chili powder. That's what you do with a big harvest. It keeps for years. I usually run out before the next harvest. Sometimes I give it away for Christmas, depending on how much I have.

RpR -- by making your own chili base, do you mean just to cut up the peppers and freeze, or do you add other stuff before you freeze?

I am surprised this forum doesn't have it's own dedicated section for Capsicum like it does for Ipomoea.

It's close to seed starting time again!
I have chosen to retire from this forum due to issues I have with regards to how it is moderated and personal drama I have recently become aware of.

Pepper seed starting is still a ways off for me, but we definitely need a new thread for 2023 -
