this 4x4 foot bed seemed like a good home for a fern. Five years ago I planted Sensitive Fern... and it took off like a rocket.
The 'Palace Purple' Heuchera came next... to add some textural and color contrasts.
The 'Spider's Web' False Aralia is there because this was a convenient place for it during summer months.
The 'Tardiva' Hydrangea belonged to a friend and neighbor named Nancy who had passed away. [We dig up and share plants belonging to neighbors who pass on or move into assisted living... because management will wait 30 days and then rip the shrubs up and toss them into trash.]
Our NGA website shows this hydrangea as being capable of spreading 15 feet. This one, however, will be pruned the next couple of years to create a miniature, windswept somewhat oriental habit with a height of 6-8 feet.
As long as the 'Palace Purple' does this well in this location... it can stay here.
But the 'Spider's Web' Fatsia is potted up and needs to move to another location. I haven't committed to a specific plant... but I'm inclined toward an Exbury-Hybrid Azalea. We shall see.
