Hi. I ordered my first Iris rhizomes last year. I am new to gardening. I noted that my Feedback that was almost blue in the website of the vendor bloomed in the fall, and it was eggplant purple...
Now the vendors are listing their precious irises again...and my hand is eager to order...Hopefully this time I will get some true blue irises. I got advice from one kind moderator (Thank you Kent) about some blue irises.
I am curious about your opinions, specially what is the closest to light, medium and dark blue? do you have any true navy colored iris?

I am trying to find something like this:

What did Kent tell you?
I haven't found a true-navy yet.

Fortunately, my favorite color is blurple so I keep buying 'blue' and getting my favorite color Hilarious!
In fact, I just ordered some more!

Anyway, I'll be watching to see what others have to say while my blurple collection expands Smiling

Kent mentioned several light blue irises. For the darker shades he recommended Sea Power and/or Adriatic Waves.

I want all shades of blue. But I am also looking for something darker, like navy blue. Is that possible? I am afraid of ordering irises that look dark blue in the websites and later when they bloom they will be purple...that is why I am looking for opinions, people from different areas and soils that maybe had luck and got to grow true navy blue flowers?

Hey! My favorite in an interesting blue is "Rippling River".
Over the years, I have had enough dark purple varieties of iris in my collection of irises. But the bluest is still "Rippling River" by Schreiner.

A true navy blue might be hard to find. There have been a few threads on the subject of "true blue" or "best blue"--most are light colored blues. But here are a couple of darker blues that folks have mentioned are close to a true blue:

I know. Every blue I like seems to pose a risk that it will be just purple...I guess it is a gamble *Blush*

The other problem is that some vendors just want to sell...and it seems they spice up the color of their pics... very dishonest in my opinion. The hybridizer of Feedback has a super blue pic of it on his website. It is very annoying. I already know it is purple like an eggplant. Silly me I still will risk buying more from them Shrug!
But this time I will limit my budget and quantities better...so you see I feel it is a gambling risk.

Is there a local iris society in your area? How about local vendors and/or public gardens where you can see them. Within walking distance of where I live in Willow Street, PA, there is a man who raises TB irises for sale, and I can see them in bloom there. People drive there from far away to see his irises in bloom. He will dig them on the spot, so you know exactly what you are getting. That is how I got Poet's Rhyme.

One problem is that different cameras and computer screens make colors look different---especially blues and purples. Also lighting conditions, as well as growing conditions. I listed the two cultivars above based on what other forum members who have these plants said about the color---being close to true blue. The screen I'm using today makes them look blue. Shrug!

By the way, welcome to the iris forum Kei77! Smiling

Thank you Lovey dubby

Well, I have to agree about screens and computers but it seems to me that a lot of pictures are being edited to enhance colors. If I look for the iris feedback on my cell phone or using other computers I always get that blue flower picture.

That is the main reason I got interested in this forum! to hear from real customers. nodding

i loved andrea's 'nb' so much i bought one, too. it's very prolific in my garden and have had to give many rhizomes away. now i just have a few rhizomes left, and i'll have to see how it fares, this year.

here's 'nb' growing in my garden.
