Thread OP

Hello! I have a couple of big beautiful Chinese evergreen plants that my mentor gave me years ago. For the second time, one of them has grown berries! Two, in fact!

Any advice about how to plant these? What kind of soil, light, watering, etc? Last time I planted one, it grew to maybe 2 inches tall before dying. Sad I really want these ones to survive!

Not familiar with them.

Tried some quick research on Chinese Evergreen propagation and mostly got results for cuttings and division. No one referenced seeds on basic plant sites.

Saw a bit of discussion in forums about stripping the flesh away from the seed before planting once the berries turn red, 50/50 soil pumice moist but not wet, being patient. Not much else. Not recommending this but that's what was out there.

If you got one last time you did something right.
Any clues as to why it didn't make it past 2"?

Thanks for your response!
I'm not really sure. I'm pretty new to all this stuff. If I recall correctly it got a little…gray? And then died. Could be that I was over/under watering? Fungus maybe? Wish I had a picture of it.

Only Aglaonema modestum comes up from seed(species).
Hybrids have sterile seed..If you manage to get fertile seed it takes approx.. 9 months to get it to sprout.. (I am not kidding here :whistling:.. done it ..been there.. won't try it again..;)..
