I have no clue, but whatever they are, we have them growing in all our pastures - not all as lovely as your specimen, however.

Tradescantia can be difficult to identify under normal situations, but especially since they do hybridize. Records that I found show that T. virginiana's range does not reach Texas. Tradescantia ohiensis and Tradescantia hirsutiflora both occur in Jefferson County ( assuming that where your are) and T. occidentalis occurs in Chambers County on the left and Cameron Parish on our right, so there is a good possibility the it is here also.
Here is an identification key, if you can get through all the scientific jargon.

Jay, thanks for all the info. Yes, I'm in Jefferson; and they were from an open field.

That's interesting. I have seen pink ones growing next to purple ones, but never a multi-colored one.

You're right, Jay; I have the the pink growing next to the purples but this is the first multi-colored one which is in the lawn 10 ft from the bed. I've seen some white with light pink edging before but this one is different.
