This is one that's new to me this year. I'd love to grow it after seeing the pic on Kermit's site, Flowers By The Sea! Drooling Lovey dubby

https://www.fbts.com/salvia-mi...

Since it's not hardy here, I'd grow it in a container. Thumbs up

Beautiful colored Salvia!

I was lucky to get a seed germinated from a 6 year old seed! It's from Robin Middleton's collection.

I've been told elsewhere the cultivar sometimes doesn't come true to parental type from seeds. I don't really care. Hahaha Hilarious!

Marilyn,

I've had my eye on this particular Salvia for awhile! I love the way the red flowers contrasts with the dark calyx.

Ditto to Joseph keep us updated on how your seedlings do! I'm growing some varieties I got from Robin this year also.

Wow that is growing fast! Looks awesome! A lot of my salvia seedlings died. I still have some doing good but they are growing slooooowww.. what potting medium do you use? I saw the video by FBTS on growing Salvias from seed but I just don't know if I have the funds for all that stuff. Congratulations on your baby! Hurray!

I germinate seeds directly on Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Potting Mix. I only add water when the container is noticeably light in weight.

Once the roots fill the first container, which is usually a Dixie cup, I will transplant to a larger container. The second container usually is a larger washed out plastic container that previously held cottage cheese. I put at the bottom of the hole about an inch or 2 of fresh homegrown worm castings. Then I nestle in the plant so the roots touch the castings and then firm the sides.

This second pot will eventually go outdoors to the final container for growing and showing.

The soil in the second and third pots is a medium I used the previous year, amended with worm castings and an organic fertilizer.

I like to re-use containers for seedling production because they work for me and I don't have to pay money for them.

Yes! Thank you Joseph for sharing. I have seeds left and am going to try again. It's reassuring to know I don't need five million different products. Thanks again :tiphat:

I think my Royal Bumble plant is starting to flower up! Maybe it is wishful thinking?
