Ground lined with several layers of cardboard. First step after that was to add 5 big bags of old leaves gathered about a year ago that have been waiting for me to be ready to do this.
The plan this weekend is to do some massive trimming around the yard and to add a load of those fresh, tender green leaves. I'll mix the old & new a little bit with a pitchfork, making an effort to avoid disturbing the cardboard. Mixing "browns" and "greens" will help both decompose more quickly and yield a great batch of compost in the spot where I need it.
After it "cooks down" and levels out, I'll top-off with soil & compost around the end of the year, and then this should be my new fav. garden spot next year.
