It has been doing great for 5 years but recently it's started getting these dry circles on its leaves. Is this a disease?

did you move it at all? plant can be very finicky at times at least for me. Check the roots for root rot. Did you over water it?

Good questions, what do you think has changed? Did it get too dry, too much fertilizer, too cold?

Hmm! I've been pretty consistent so hard to tell. And haven't moved it in over a year. Tomorrow I will check the roots to see if it was possible overwatering. I hope not!

I'd guess too dry.

Doesn't look like root rot to me, leaf-wise, just not enough moisture to support the nice growth.

When, how, and how much do you water?

Ya. The roots looked fine. I soak through the soil and rewater once the soil is dry. I haven't fertilized in a little over a year, so possible it is deficient?

The problem with your Money Tree (Pachira aquatica) could be due to under watering. I have two potted Money Trees that stay outside year round and they are totally neglected and under watered and the leaves seem to stay dry and crispy like that. *Blush* Another issue that can cause dry, brown crispy leaf edges is dry air. If the air in your home is dry (which is often the case in northern zones when homes are heated during the winter), the plant may be lacking sufficient humidity.

Ahh this is probably it. We live in nyc and have radiator heat so it probably has suffered a bit. Will have to crank the humidifier and water it more often.

Dry leaves would make sense for that, but the perfectly round circles made me worry it was disease

I think you're on the right track. The whole name gives a clue it likes water. As the plant has grown, I think it's water needs have increased, especially in a small pot.
